Without our health and well-being, we are not free to be the best version of ourselves. That’s why I train first thing in the morning. And being selfish in the wee hours of the morning doesn’t take away from family time.
I train at 4 am when school is in session and at 7 am during breaks. When I can squeeze it in, I do high intensity interval cardio.
I follow the Age Optimization System of Skip La Cour.
I highly recommend the Strong app for tracking workouts. It is very easy and intuitive. I input my own routine and am able to track weight, reps, and rest intervals. Very cool app. Get it at strongapp.io or the App Store.
I am also a proponent of using My Fitness Pal. I find that a sound diet is like a sound budget. Until you track them, you don’t realize how much you are overeating or overspending. I try to follow a ketogenic macronutrient profile about 20/5/75 for protein/carbs/fat, though I’m not super-persnickity about it. As long as I am taking in quality protein before and after my workouts, and limiting “bad” carbs throughout the day, I am usually pretty close to that most weekdays.
I do not usually drink calories, besides dry white wine, or a few craft beers on the weekend. (Summertime is a challenge for me, especially on a hot day or socializing with friends!)
I also supplement with Onnit Total Human and a daily multivitamin.
