Although they’re not “people,” saying good bye to our beloved family pets is just as hard. That’s because to pet owners, they are real people with unique personalities.
That guy Max made it to 15 years old last month, but he has been slowing down in recent months. And the past few weeks, he is not showing any interest in eating. He’s been having bouts of diarrhea and rapid shallow breathing. He just seems to wander around the house, not even looking to snuggle like he usually does. His quality of life was greatly diminished.
So that girl Carol and I have decided it might be time. We made a vet appointment last evening. After palpitating his abdomen, the vet said that she felt a tumor in his belly, probably on his liver. She agreed that it was indeed his time. So the humane thing was to euthanize him before things got worse.
While this decision is making our hearts ache, we know in our heads that it was the right thing to do.
Wish our little man blessings as he awaits us at the rainbow bridge. He lived better than most people, and we are so grateful to have had him in our lives for the past 15 years.
